We view our integration with, support of and contribution to our host communities as part of our licence to operate. We recognise the potential environmental and social impacts associated with the Sembcorp Myingyan IPP, and have taken care to be especially mindful of our local stakeholders.
Prior to the construction of the project, we held stakeholder engagement sessions to understand the concerns and needs of the local community. We then drew up environmental and social management plans accordingly to address these issues. These plans are in compliance with local regulations and standards set by the International Finance Corporation and / or the World Health Organization. These plans have also been approved by the Ministry of Natural Resources and Environmental Conservation (MONREC). Regular stakeholder engagement sessions are held every year as part of our commitment to being a responsible neighbor in the community.
Independent third party audit reports on environmental and social compliance commissioned by multilateral organisations such as the International Finance Corporation, Asian Development Bank and Asian Infrastructure Investment Bank show Sembcorp Myingyan IPP to be in compliance with applicable environmental and social performance standards and guidelines.
